Itty Bitty Scientists
Wednesdays, August 4 & 11
11 a.m. & Noon
Fun, hands-on science for toddlers ages 2-5 and their parents is back again this year!  Each session will last about 30-45 minutes and will begin with a story reflective of the topic of the day.  Join us, and bring along a friend too!  Programs are free with admission and limited to 40 toddlers each session.

August 4
Fuzzy Wuzzy
- It's all about the world of touch during our final program of the season.  Toddlers will get to explore their sense of touch with various native items plucked from the hidden stocks of the Red River Gallery.  Everyone will leave with their own touch and feel books modeled after today's story The Touch and Feel Farm.

August 11
Sun Safety -
Developed and led by LSUHSC-S's Medical Librarians Deidra Woodson, Donna Timm and Talicia Tarver, "Sun Safety" will highlight the functions of the sun using the book, Sunny Bunny, written and illustrated by Woodson and Tarver, respectively. There will be a demonstration on the light and heat produced from the sun as well as a presentation on ways to protect yourself from its rays. An activity will follow with toddlers creating a hat made from a disposable bowl.

Solar System Science
Every Saturday in August
3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Why is Mars red?  Why is Neptune blue?  What are the rings of Saturn made of?  How big is Jupiter's Great Red Spot and what happened to one of its stripes?  Why is Pluto not a planet anymore?  Will our Sun turn into a black hole?  Find out the answer to these and other deep, probing questions as we investigate our solar system.  Afterwards, explore the Windham Family Rooftop Terrace and the Averett Observatory, weather permitting.  Program is free with admission.

Dog Days of Summer
Tuesday, August 10
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?  Stop by Sci-Port for a free hot dog and see a bit of culinary science using homemade solar ovens.  No admission ticket is necessary.  A large drink and chips are available for $3.

Star Party
Friday, September 24, 8 - 11 p.m.
Sponsored by: IBERIABANK

Use Sci-Port's large telescopes or bring your own to check out the Moon, Saturn and other heralded constellations, stars and planets "hanging" in Shreveport's skies.  Sci-Port staff will be on the Windham Family Rooftop Terrace to guide visitors on an out-of-this-world celestial journey.  A full complement of activities and presentations -- both inside the Sawyer Space Dome Planetarium and out -- will bring you back down to Earth with stellar Sci-Port fun.  Whether you're a curious newbie, a passionate astronomer or somewhere in between, this evening with the stars is sure to enchant.  "May the Force be with you" as you explore the dark side!
