Camp Themes & Descriptions

Adventure Camp*
Each day we will delve into the science of extreme sports. Learn the physics of bungee jumping and skateboarding, compete in a bungee jumping egg contest and watch a live skateboard demonstration. We will also go on an adventure of our own as we take a ride down the Red River aboard the “Spirit of the Red” River Cruise!

Air Racers
Fasten your seat belt for a thrilling ride through the history and science of aviation! We will jump in the cockpit for the “Air Racers” IMAX experience of high-speed flight from the fighter pilots of World War I, to the daredevils who compete in the National Championship Air Races outside Reno, Nv. today. Hands-on activities teach campers the basic principles of flight.

Body Works
Come take a look inside yourself! What happens in your body when you come home from school, smell cookies baking, run to the kitchen to see if they’re done and take one? Imagine you eat the whole cookie and drink a glass of milk. Come learn how many body systems are involved and what roles each of them play in everyday activities!

Critter Camp*
The camp is an animal lover’s dream come true! We will offer a variety of hands-on learning opportunities that support the bond between humans and animals by nurturing knowledge, compassion and respect toward all living things. Each day we will visit a different species! Plus, get hands-on with live sting rays, horseshoe crab, starfish and sea urchins all from the gulf coast!

LEGO® Camp
What can you learn from a LEGO®? Get ready for fast-paced building, crazy challenges and LEGO® mania as we use LEGO® bricks to learn chemistry, mathematics and even anatomy. We will build a LEGO® skeleton, use bricks to create molecules and compete in symmetry challenges.

Makers Camp
Use your imagination, and become a Maker! Have your camper(s) see themselves as makers, creators and doers by creating, building and discovering. Each day we will make a new project, from building a bird house or bat box, to making a working robot! This camp is designed to spark imagination and instill a desire to create.

NASA Rockets (NASA Summer of Innovation Camp)
Few topics generate as much excitement as rockets. Plan to learn the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical foundations of rocketry through hands-on experimentation. (Translation… We’re going to make rockets!)

Natural Science
Chemistry, biology, earth science, astronomy and physics are all part of natural sciences. This exciting camp will feature the best of each subject! Campers will construct a chocolate rock cycle as you learn about geology, watch as we produce a Fire Tornado to experience chemistry and get up close and personal with real skulls and furs as we examine biology.

Robotics I
Assemble robots. Input programming. Rule the world! Sci-Port can help you with the first couple of steps - what you do with the knowledge is up to you! Using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robots we will show you how robots work, help you design a robot and teach you how to command it. No experience is necessary. This camp will end with you using your new knowledge in a robotic dance off!

Robotics II
If you love robotics and robotics competitions, this camp is for you. We will recreate past robotics competition challenges and give you the chance to analyze your results and show you how to score big. Teams will work together to build “Robo Gator,” and the week will end with an “Angry Birds” style castle siege competition.

Science of Sports
Shooting a basketball is one of those things we attribute to years of practice. But what if you could become a better shooter just by learning some mechanical science? It’s time to get up and play! This camp will teach you the science of basketball. Learn the importance of peripheral vision, and test your action and reaction time.

Sci-Wart’s Academy
Come celebrate Harry’s birthday with us at Sci-Warts Academy. A new term will feature potions, spells and charms from all your favorite “Harry Potter” adventures. Plus make your own Mad Eye Moody eye, your own custom wand and of course, participate in the ever popular Quidditch tournament!

Stars (NASA Summer of Innovation Camp)
Come explore the heavens with us as we take a look at the stars! We will focus on the closest star to us using the current NASA theme: “Solar Max – Storm Warning!” We will expose you to the violent nature of our sun and share discoveries that come from the NASA’s heliophysics missions. You will also learn the truth about shooting stars and even eat a comet!

*There is an additional $8 charge for these camp themes.
