WHY:
Zika is a disease caused by Zika virus that is spread to people primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito. Research is underway
to investigate the potential link between pregnant mothers infected with Zika and babies born with microcephaly – a serious birth defect in
which the head is smaller than expected when compared to other babies of the same age and sex.

As this research unfolds and the spread of Zika virus becomes an international health concern, Sci-Port partners with LSU Health
Sciences Center – Shreveport to bring in experts to better inform the Shreveport-Bossier City community about the disease and its potential
implications for our area.

Questions may be directed to Claire Floyd of Sci-Port (cfloyd@sciport.org)  or Meg Willet  of LSU Health (mwille@lsuhsc.edu).
