Jan. 17, 2008 - The International Paper Foundation has awarded an $8,500 grant to Sci-Port Discovery Center, a non-profit hands-on science center in Shreveport. Sci-Port will use the grant dollars to expand its environmental education by developing advanced ecological and environmental programs.  The efforts are part of the International Paper Nature Lab, which is funded by the IP Foundation.

"One of the primary interests of the IP Foundation is environmental education for young children regarding forestry, air and water quality," said Lee Alexander, Manager, West Region, International Paper.  "Sci-Port is an excellent choice for our funding.  We believe that its outreach to nearly 2 million visitors and school-aged children since its opening in 1998 has provided a fun, tactile way to learn about forestry and the environment.  Our partnership has had a tremendously positive effect throughout the Ark-La-Tex region."

International Paper (NYSE:IP), founded in 1898, is a global uncoated paper and packaging company. Annual sales are about $22 billion. To learn more about International Paper, its products and commitment to economic, social and environmental sustainability, visit
