Greece: Secrets of the
Past, a big screen archaeological adventure
featuring the beauty and grandeur of an ancient civilization, opens Saturday,
April 17 for a three-month feature run at the IMAX Dome Theatre of Sci-Port:
Louisiana's Science Center.
Greece:
Secrets of the Past was directed by two-time Academy
Award-nominated filmmaker Greg MacGillivray and tells the stirring story of how
a 21st century Greek archeologist uncovers the secret history of his
ancient ancestors who forged a society that continues to astound the world today
with its ideas, inventions and achievements. Set against the breathtaking, azure
vistas of the Greek Isles, the film merges a contemporary archeological
"detective story" with some of the most advanced digital recreations. In an
emotional sequence, computer modeling restores the Parthenon to its original
glory at the height of the Greek Empire through the most expensive,
labor-intensive single CGI scene ever produced for an IMAX film.
Other
stunning scenes include a recreation of the volcanic eruption that buried
Santorini in 1646 BC, high-altitude IMAX photography above the Greek Isles and
high-tech archeology techniques such as ground-penetrating radar used to locate
building walls buried deep beneath the ground.

Past probes
some of the greatest lingering mysteries of this remarkable civilization: How
did the Greek empire of some 2,500 years ago flourish so fantastically? What was
life like in the Golden Age of ancient Greece? And why did it suddenly fall?
Helping to bring these questions into contemporary focus with her trademark wit
and style is the film's narrator, Greek-American Nia Vardalos, the writer and
star of the runaway hit feature My Big Fat
Greek Wedding.
Through May 30,
the film will show at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, and 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission to Sci-Port's IMAX Dome
Theatre is $9.50 general, $8.50 for children, seniors (60+) and military, $8.00
for groups of 15-plus and $6 for Sci-Port members.
Sci-Port:
Louisiana's Science Center is a 92,000 square-foot science and
entertainment center featuring 290 hands-on exhibits, Space Dome Planetarium,
IMAX Dome Theatre, demonstration theater, daily changing programs, gift shop and
cafe. Sci-Port is located at 820

Riverfront. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
